My Story

(The short version) The disappearance of Charles and Grace Lewis from their farm in Bonne Terre on Sept, 21 1993. began a roller coaster ride the likes of which a part of me will never recover. The retired couple disappeared without a trace that September afternoon. After nearly a year of gut wrenching suspicions, heart ached conversations, fruitless searches, thousands of flyers, and countless hours of prayer, the intensive investigation by  St. Francois County Sheriff's Department,  the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the friends and family made a discovery that would bring some closure.

The bodies of my mom and dad, Charles and Grace Lewis were found buried in a Washington County barnyard some 30 miles from our Bonne Terre Farm. Both had been shot to death.  Their bodies were buried, in a shallow grave by an old barn. After digging the grave and placing the bodies in it, the men poured concrete over the bodies. They then covered the grave with a pile of manure so that no one cold tell a grave had been dug.

William Rousan of the Old Mines area is on death row at Potosi Correctional Center for the murder. His son, Brent Rousan, is serving a life prison sentence. A third member of the Rousan family was given a reduced sentence for turning state's evidence at his brother's trial and is out walking the streets today. Two otther Rousan family members involved in the burial of the bodies and stolen property were never charged.

One of the worst parts of the someone missing for me was not knowing where they were or what had happened. As sorrowful as finding my parents dead was, at least they were found and our family could have some closure.
